Recently, scientists have discovered a way to turn ordinary human skin cells into stem cells with the same characteristics as those derived from human embryos. Researchers could grow these "pluripotent" stem cells into mature cell types such as heart, liver, or brains cells, expose them to new drugs or potential environmental hazards, then look for toxic side effects. If the work holds true to its promise, it would largely bypass ethical issues that have dogged research on human embryonic stem cells. It could also allow scientists to tailor the cells to specific individuals, eliminating the possibility of rejection.
Dr. Bruce Conklin will discuss his research in developing heart cells to be used in toxicology screens. He'll also touch on the controversy, hype, and funding concerns that dominant the field of stem cell research. Bruce Conklin is Senior Investigator at the Gladstone Institute of Cardiovascular Disease.

Adventure to the world of Bioinformatics
Just wanted to let everyone one about the exciting feild of computation biology or Bioinformatics. Those who are intersted to know more about the evolution and how organism have evolved should look up some of the material published on the pubmed.
Intelligent design is the main keyword.
I also just wanted to summerize what went on today at the seminar I attented at SF State. Basically, here are the keywords that I pickup today.
Openjournal.org ( which is currently not up yet) it's a database for Scientists to publish their work and have their peers review them. there seems to be problems associated with the editors of the high profile journals such as science and nature, where they throw out papers without having the specialty in the field. so, some smart people are trying to develope a kind of database where PDF version of the papers are published and accessed by the reviewer's of your choice. Of course, this database will have many check system in place. For Example, you can peer review based on your records of work, as well as your education and etc. It will resemble a social networking site such as facebook but only for professionals.
